Ross's Report

Ok....I will provide a kiting update.

No kiting in the rain Wednesday.  My second vaccination day.

Last week there was lots of action:

  • Monday Ross and Mike at Alberta Beach, 9m foil (Ross) and 15m twintip (Mike). Nice afternoon. No rain.  
  • Friday and Sat my fourth trip to Keho for this spring.  Mike was getting his vaccination so couldn't attend.  Tim, Matt, and Ross on Friday kiting 5m and 7m, sunny and temps 30degC.  A bit gusty but some fun waves.......and sunny and 30degC.  No rain.  
  • Saturday, Andreas made a quick trip down in the morning.  Very strong 5m/6m kiting.  Matt being younger and tougher held on to his 7m.  Gusts recorded at the Kite Ranch west of where we kite were up to 80k.  There was good swell especially at the east end of the lake. There were lots of strapless jumping for me, and even a few strapless landings as well! The temperature was about 20deg C but cooling down in the afternoon. No rain. We all packed up by 1700 and went back to Edmonton.  
  • Sunday up early, and back out to Alberta Beach, where Ross and Andreas were 9/10m foiling and Mike was back on his 15m.  It was all good until I dropped my kite into the worst place on AB east bay with no wind, lots of boat launches, deep enough water to make it hard to hold footing to relaunch but not enough to foil out.  There was a lot of swearing going on as the wind finally dropped, and I walked back to the launch....reminds me of windsurfing.  
  • I had a beer on the beach in the sun with Mike and Andreas and then went biking. No rain.

Lac la Biche - Big Jim's Place Tuesday - Day 1 I arrived at Big Jim's place at 1:00.  Jim met me on the driveway and helped me unload my van....  I had a lot of my toys with me....  Two sea planes, two quad copters, my wake foil gear, and my foiling gear! Blaine arrived shortly after I did, followed by Mike and then Brad.  It was great to see them! It was a beautiful day, but there wasn't much wind.  Jim and I blew up our wings, which more or less killed  what wind there was.  Went out on our SUP's anyway, but the wind was too light to hold the wings in the air, so we didn't have much success. Blaine, Brad and I then set up our Foilboards so they are all ready to go.  We also took some turns on the jetski blasting around.  In calm water it will get up to 60mph! 2021-09-01 Sailing the first week of September

Thursday, September 1, 2021 Lac Ste Anne:  Alberta Beach Harold's Report: Allan, Vadim and I snuck in an afternoon of pretty good windsurfing today.  The rain finally stopped at about 1230PM and it turned into a sunny windy day, so I jumped on the water and Al joined me soon after.  Vadim showed up a little later and got in some pretty good reaches.  Al and Vadim used their 6.5s and I used my 6.1. There were lots of good swells to be had all day. The first hour of wind was solid.  The second couple of hours were fluky.  The wind seemed to rise and fall off the water in patches, although sometimes it was sustained, so as Kent would say, it was technical sailing.  But all in all it was fun.  Mike came down on his kite to say hello.  It looked like he was well powered most of the time and having fun.  The water is getting cool.  We’d better get our sailing in while it is still liquid.  Monday, September 6, 2021 Lac Ste Anne - Albe...

2021-07-11 Blasting at Alberta Beach

Lac Ste. Anne - Alberta Beach Mikes Report: We had a great kite session at Alberta beach yesterday. There were a slew of kiters on the water on a beautiful day.    Ross was smoking on his new foil with his 7m.  Andreas was on his surfboard which met its demise again and then on his foil  I think he was on his 10. I was on my surfboard ... I tried strapless, but not by design, as my solo front strap came undone so I decided to toast it completely.  I found strapless pretty easy but still struggling to gybe the thing.    I did a quick session on my 15 at the start then went down to my 10 when it filled in.  Allan and one other windsurfer ( not sure who ) were getting a good ride for a change I think Al was on his 6.5. Note:  It turns out that the "other" windsurfer was Vadim. He told me he was on his 6.5 and 99 Litre board, and then his 115 Litre board.  He said it was a very good day, with gusts, and lulls.
